The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has approved a bill seeking to create a comprehensive framework for addressing climate change in the state. The legislation, sponsored by Mohammed Adamu Omadefu, was passed on Monday during plenary at the Assembly complex in Lafia. Announcing the passage, Speaker Danladi Jatau said the bill represents a major step towards integrating environmental sustainability into governance across all sectors of the states economy. Under the provisions of the new law, a Climate Change Advisory Committee will be established, to be chaired by the state governor, with the mandate to coordinate policies, develop adaptation strategies, and guide state agencies on climate-related initiatives. Jatau directed the Clerk of the House to prepare a clean copy of the bill and forward it to Governor Abdullahi Sule for his assent.
