Climate change is deeply intertwined with everyone's future on Earth. Yet, the world seems on track to overshoot the 1.5 C threshold for global temperature rise set by the Paris Agreement. How is China responding to this global challenge? Besides China's notable developments in the green sector, initiatives ranging from the National Library of China's "natural cooling" system to protect ancient books an innovation that saves a huge amount of energy every year to Chinese scientists' simulation of climate change on a "Super Earth" system, illustrate how different sectors in China have been trying, in their own ways, to cope with climate change. These concerted efforts underpin China's commitment to its dual carbon goals: peaking carbon emissions before 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality before 2060. As noted by the UNDP Resident Representative in China Beate Trankmann, this pledge is not only a national ambition but also a vital contribution to the global efforts to keep the temperature rise within the 1.5 C target. China is composing its answer to global climate governance through comprehensive action. This documentary can tell you more. (A production of China Daily Opinion Channel)
