The Forever Project was launched in March 2020 as part of Stuffs commitment to robust coverage of the epoch-defining challenges of climate change and sustainability. This popular Stuff initiative includes daily online coverage and in our newspapers, plus The Forever Project magazine which is distributed quarterly with all of Stuffs metropolitan and regional papers. Theres a weekly newsletter as well as special collaborative projects such as the One Hot Minute video and podcast series and the Climate Action Report Cards . From the projects inception, Climate Change editor Eloise Gibson has led Stuffs world-class and award-winning climate journalism, with a focus on climate science and policy as well as holding business and government to account in regard to climate action. The Climate Action Report Cards is one recent example. The Forever Project aims to do more than articulate the scale of the peril we also strive to share solutions and help our readers hold on to hope . Many of you have told us you feel helpless or depressed when reading about the scale of the climate challenge Stuffs NowNext sustainability survey of more than 10,000 Kiwis revealed that although 75 percent believe we need to act urgently to combat climate change, only 57 percent plan to make at least one change in their home, car or commute. To this end, Sarah Heeringa joined the team in late 2022, as the Forever Projects Life Editor, delivering weekly content that aims to inspire and better equip readers to live in more sustainable ways. The Forever Projects sustainable living content helps Kiwis embrace simple and practical solutions that have an impact. Theres an action gap that people need help to overcome, says Heeringa. A lot of people want to embrace sustainability but while we know many people are galvanised by data or the scale of the peril ahead, there are others who feel overwhelmed by it, and it can put them off engaging with the climate crisis altogether. Were developing new ways to interact with Kiwis who are seeking easy, affordable but impactful solutions. Small steps, done by many, have the ability to make a meaningful impact on how we will all live in the future. The Forever Project invests in sustainability in practical ways including our sponsorship of The Forever Home . This year, Stuff and our sponsors have teamed up with the Ara Education Charitable Trust, working with students from low-decile schools on a sustainable rebuild of a once-derelict home. Each week, Stuff showcases the development of the Forever House in stories and videos , showing readers simple tips and tricks for their own homes, and explaining some of the concepts of sustainable housing that anyone can adopt. Senior climate reporter Olivia Wannan also contributes to The Forever Projects ongoing and pertinent climate coverage .
