Highway closed after logging truck and ute crash

One person is seriously injured after a logging truck and ute crashed near Benneydale in the Waikato. A section of State Highway 30 is closed between Mangakino and Te Kuiti, in the Waitomo District following the crash at 8.10am on Monday. One person has been seriously injured and a rescue helicopter has been dispatched to the scene, police said in a statement. The driver of the logging truck had been knocked around while the driver of the ute suffered serious to moderate injuries, Fire and Emergency northern communications shift manager Dallas Ramsay. The crash was about eight to 10km east of Benneydale. Fire crews were helping to assist a person to the helicopter. Motorists are asked to avoid the area.
