Leonardo DiCaprio has met with Greta Thunberg, describing the 16-year-old activist as a "leader of our time" and revealing the pair have "made a commitment to support one another". The Swedish teen was in Los Angeles to take part in a youth climate strike on Friday, but earlier found time to catch up with the Hollywood star and environmental activist. The Academy Award winner shared photos of their meeting on Instagram, writing of his admiration for the face of the global youth climate movement. "There are few times in human history where voices are amplified at such pivotal moments and in such transformational ways but Greta Thunberg has become a leader of our time," he wrote. Thunberg also appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, where she was was asked if she would ever consider sitting down with US President Donald Trump to "try to help him understand climate change". "I don't understand why I would do that," Thunberg responded. "I don't see what I could tell him that he hasn't already heard. I just think it would be a waste of time, really." Thunberg became an international celebrity following her now-famous "How dare you?" speech at the United Nations Climate Action Summit in September. Trump mocked the young activist on Twitter after the speech, writing: "She seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see!" Thunberg hit back by changing her Twitter bio to: "A very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future."
