Environmental groups have welcomed the Victorian governments decision to ban gas connections in new dwellings from next year but the states Opposition believes the new rules will drive up energy bills. Solar Analytics CEO Stefan Jarnason joined Sky News Australia to discuss the feasibility of Victorias plan and how it will impact energy prices in a country already dealing with a cost-of-living crisis. For existing homes, it depends on the person to save money, for many people itll be worthwhile, for many it wont, said Mr Jarnason. But on a new home, because it costs you $4000 to put in that gas infrastructure in the first place, youre actually saving people over the lifetime with this system, $5,000 to $10,000.
