Independent MP Zali Steggall has called on Prime Minister Scott Morrison to step up as she is set to introduce a climate change bill to adopt a position of net zero emissions by 2050. At the moment we have the handbrake firmly on and the people that will pay the price for that will be the Australians, Ms Steggall said. We will be the pariah of the international community. The bill was initially slated for earlier this year but was put on hold due to COVID19. It will also establish a Climate Change Commission. With that Climate Change Commission we can have independent reporting, clear reporting, so the Australian public can have confidence that the government is addressing the risk at hand, she said.
