Joanna Lumley calls for return to 1950s style deprivations in bid to tackle climate change
has called for a return to rationing to combat . The Absolutely Fabulous star suggested legislation is needed for the sake of this beautiful Earth. These are tough times, she said. We might even have to go back to some kind of rationing, where youre given a certain number of points and its up to you how to spend them whether its buying a bottle of whisky or flying in an aeroplane. Miss Lumley, 75, who has campaigned against single-use plastic, also said people should cut back on weekend breaks abroad and stop eating meat. Speaking to Radio Times, she added: Weve got to think that everything we do will make the place better every plastic bottle you dont buy, every piece of litter you pick up, every piece of meat you dont eat. Every small thing counts. She continued: Weve become very wasteful, particularly in the Western world. Of course, there are lots of people in the Western world who are jolly poor, but largely its the Western world that stuffs its face and chucks stuff away and doesnt care. Perhaps people have got to think a bit harder. Maybe more of our holidays should be at home or taking trains, and not hopping on a plane to Magaluf for the weekend. Earlier this year Miss Lumley attributed her vegetarian diet to her good health. I dont get ill because Im vegetarian, she told the Mail. I still have plenty of energy. I am absolutely fine, I gave up meat 45 years ago. Everything I was in, including being Patsy, was done on a vegetarian diet.
