"We're running out of time but there's still hope... I believe that if we better understand the threat we face, the more likely it is that we can avoid such a catastrophic future." Creators of the film called it "an urgent, important and timely film" as there has been a "real hunger from audiences to find out more about climate change and understand the facts". Earlier in the year, the 92-year-old veteran wildlife broadcaster urged the most powerful nations in the world to create a plan to tackle climate change. In his acceptance speech for the Crystal Award at the World Economic Forum, Attenborough acknowledged that "what we do now and in the next few years will profoundly affect the next few thousand years". "We can create a world with clean air and water, unlimited energy and fish stocks that will sustain us well into the future. But to do that, we need a plan," Attenborough said. He has previously spoken on the topic of climate change saying it's "the most important issue we face," so it's no surprise the award-winning documentary-maker is tackling the big issue for his next project. The BBC stated on their website that it won't be the only film created on the topic of climate change. A number of other documentaries will accompany Attenborough's latest work, including BBC One's Blue Planet Live , Blue Planet UK , and future programmes exploring a number of topics such as plastic, over-population, meat production, and a planet health check from the air. Climate Change: The Facts will air on BBC One in the UK in the coming months. No specific New Zealand release date has been announced.
