Brazil's Government Evaluates Abandoning Administrative Reform
Brazil Government is evaluating whether it should send its own administrative reform project to Congress. The reform addresses new hiring and career plans in the government. Congressional leader Rodrigo Maia (DEM-RJ) did not receive the idea well. The proposal is for the Executive to stop sending a PEC (proposal for amendment to the Constitution) of its authorship and to take advantage of projects already in progress. After that, only suggestions would be sent to Congress. Paulo Guedes's (Economics) team has been working on the text for months, which foresees more profound changes for new government workers. The team insist that the Executive branch send the measures. But resistance would be at the political core of the Planalto Palace, due to the elections. The government leader in the Senate said he was studying ways to streamline procedures, but that in the face of Maia's reaction, the Executive branch must present its own project.
