Liberal MP Dave Sharma believes the push to call for a 'climate emergency' is one where "people have elevated symbolism, words and language over substance". His comments follow a Greens motion to have parliament declare a national climate emergency failed to get up in the lower house on Tuesday. "Calling things a term or not doesn't change the nature of the policy, so let's have a debate about the policy, let's have a debate about emissions reductions targets... but let's have a debate about what we label these things," the member for Wentworth said.
