New Zealand has slipped two spots in a global climate change performance index, placing it among the world's worst ranking nations. New Zealand has been ranked 43rd out of 58 on the annual index, compiled by climate change advocacy groups Germanwatch and Climate Action Network. The index rates the world's biggest carbon dioxide polluters on their emissions, renewable energy investments and climate change mitigation policies. New Zealand is ranked ahead of the United States in 44th spot, China at 45 and Australia, which is the lowest ranked industrial nation, in 60th position. According to the index, New Zealand's emissions level and climate policy are ranked "very poor" but we have "good" energy efficiency. Denmark, Sweden and the United Kingdom were ranked in fourth, fifth and sixth positions, respectively. First, second and third have been left unassigned because the authors say no country deserves a podium finish.
